Before talking with Odious we were
thinking...why did they choose this name for the band,and what did they want to
present in the lyrics of "Summoned by Night", and why did they call it like
that, so we decided to meet Mohamed Hassan to know these details about
Odious.
IsThis line-up from the beginning? And
what are the current members?
mohamad : the band started in 1998 in
Alexandria, the line-up was Sherif Askar (Rhythm guitarist and
oud) , Bassem Fakhri (Vocals and keyboard) , Rami
Magdi (Drums),and Ramzi Mayas (bassist) at
this time odious were playing oriental doom metal, then
came Alfi
Hayati (Bassist) instead of
Ramzi and me "Mohamed Hassan"(Lead
Guitarist), after that sherif left the
band .
So our current line-up as:
Bassem Fakhri: Vocals and
keyboard
Mohamed Hassan: All guitars and Oud
Alfi
Hayati: Bassist
Rami Magdi: Drums and
Darbouka
So what was your story with guitar,
Mohamed?
When I was at secondary school I began to play on classical
guitar for 3 years for Nirvana, Beatles and other Rock bands while I didn't have
an idea about Metal music until i heard "Black album" for
Metallica I recognised that I would be a big fan for metal
music , so I began to play for Metallica with my friends that learned
me the guitar from the beginning. Sure when I got the electric guitar.
then
i met the rest of the band (odious)
Why did you choose this name for the band?
And is there any relation between the name and your music in the
last times?
What are the instruments that you use to
make the oriental riffs? And how do you make the
riffs?
We use Oud, Drums, Percussions and Keyboard.
Bassem and me play it
on Oud and use the other instruments also.
The first aim was just music, and how to spread these music to the other
countries, by making music and play in concerts abroad, we also added
oriental riffs to make our touch in this music not to be like other bands , and
we made a proof that we are Egyptians too in the music and in the
lyrics.
Did you play covers for other bands in your
concerts?
yes, in the beginning we were playing for Amorphis,
Moonspell and more, that when we were playing doom, But our
music influence come from Dimmu Borgir cause we take it
as our ideal in black metal music .
So what do Odious arrange for in the
coming period?
Frankly, when we released our demo "Summoned by Night" we cared how to
spread it outside, we sending it to different companies to make a deal with one
of them in the future.
